Money Confessions

We all have money stories, some are wild, some are hard to talk about, and some are just plain funny. Maybe there are beliefs you’ve carried since childhood, financial decisions that came from emotion instead of logic, or habits that don’t align with what you truly want. Or something you just learned from a friend or relative.

In honor of Marcia’s upcoming book Unapologetic Wealth: Rewrite Your Money Story From Any Beginning (coming March 2026), Marcia is launching a new series called Money Confessions. This is a space to explore the real emotions, fears, and lessons behind our (or others’) financial choices.

You can share your confessions or money stories through the form below and it can be completely anonymously if you’d like. Marcia will write up and read selected submissions on social media and unpack what they may reveal about how we think and feel about money, with empathy, curiosity, and zero judgment.

Examples of money confessions:

  • “My first money memory is my older sister shoplifting makeup and my parents finding out about it.”

  • “Growing up, my parents fought about money constantly. Now, even when I’m financially stable, I avoid looking at my bank account because it makes me anxious.”

  • “I tell myself I’m being responsible by saving every penny, but deep down, I know it’s fear. I’m scared to spend, invest, or take risks, even on things that could move me forward.”

  • “I once made a big career decision purely for the paycheck, and I’ve regretted it ever since. It made me realize how much my self-worth was tied to a number.”

Everyone has money stories and possibly even a confession. What’s yours?
